Earshot is a walking companion app that plays short, community-recorded audio clips about the places you're walking past. This policy explains what data the app collects, why, and how you can control or delete it.

Earshot is available on the App Store and Google Play. This policy will be updated as the app evolves, and already reflects the data practices in the current version.

What we collect

• Location — The app uses precise device location during active walks to determine nearby places with available clips. We do not keep a history of everywhere you've been. Location data is not stored as a historical trail on servers.
• Audio — User-recorded clips are uploaded and shared with other app users at those locations. Recordings function as public content attributed to your account handle.
• Account information — Sign-in through Apple or Google provides unique identifiers and, optionally, name and email information.
• Content and activity — Uploaded clips, moderation records, and reports/blocks are retained to keep the community safe.

The app does not use third-party analytics, advertising SDKs, or sell any data.

Foreground services and permissions

On Android, Earshot uses foreground services to continue audio playback and location tracking while the app is in the background during a walk. A persistent notification is shown while these services are active, and you can end the walk at any time to stop them. The microphone foreground service is used only when you choose to record a voice clip.

Who else sees this data

Supabase provides database and storage infrastructure. Apple and Google handle authentication per their own privacy policies. Data is not shared with advertisers or data brokers.

How long we keep it, and how to delete it

You can delete your account at any time from within the app (You tab → Delete account). When deleting, you choose whether your recorded clips are removed along with your account or kept posted anonymously for the neighbourhood. This action is permanent and cannot be undone.

Children's privacy

The app is not directed at children under 13. Accounts created by minors should be reported for deletion by contacting us at the address below.

Your rights

You can access, correct, or delete your personal information through the app or by contacting us directly.

Security

We use standard protections including encrypted transit and Supabase's Row Level Security policies. No system can guarantee absolute security.
